I'm going to post a bunch of pictures of projects that the students have completed over the last semester.  In the future I'll try to post them more regularly with some details.

Future Engineers

This fall (2012) I changed up the middle school shop class just a little bit, instead of just doing traditional wood projects I added some engineering to it.  The students learned about structure, designing, drafting, and construction on a budget.  The students designed and build toothpick bridges to span a 16 inch gap.  We then had a competition to see who's bridge would hold the most weight.  I was AMAZED!!!!!  The toothpick bridges held more than I thought they could.  As a matter of fact the winning bridge (pictured below with the designers; Grace and Hallie) held 112 pounds.

My name is Drew Larrabee and I'm the new shop teacher at Wrangell High School in Southeast Alaska.  I'm replacing the previous shop teacher as he has retired after 30 great years of running this shop.  He ran a great program and did some amazing projects with his students.  I hope to take up were he left off and continue a quality program for the school.
