Future Engineers

This fall (2012) I changed up the middle school shop class just a little bit, instead of just doing traditional wood projects I added some engineering to it.  The students learned about structure, designing, drafting, and construction on a budget.  The students designed and build toothpick bridges to span a 16 inch gap.  We then had a competition to see who's bridge would hold the most weight.  I was AMAZED!!!!!  The toothpick bridges held more than I thought they could.  As a matter of fact the winning bridge (pictured below with the designers; Grace and Hallie) held 112 pounds.

This woodworking book contains a great deal of details about wood working. The book also shows several designs and explanations on the materials useful for different woodworking processes and the directions on completing different processes properly. In other words, I`m happy using this book, specially in the procedure of understading about wood working.?
